Altars and Consecrations

There are ways to consecrate both items, altars, and oneself.

The Pentacle

A pentacle is a protective symbol, and drawn using ones hands/fingers. You can trace it over items you are consecrating, or over yourself as a form of protection, or when praying.

For tracing on oneself, start at the forehead, touch then your left hip, then touch right shoulder, then touch left shoulder, then touch right hip, then finally touch forehead. See below.

Consecrating Water

Put a bit of salt into water, and then trace the Pentacle over it, saying: "Blessing be upon this water, in the name of the Mother, and the Daughter, and Absolute Deity."

Consecration of Statue or other Altar Pieces

With consecrated water, splash the intended item and then trace the Pentacle over it, saying: "In the name of the Mother and of the Daughter and of Absolute Deity, I banish from this statue all influences which are not of my Mother, the one Goddess, and do solemnly consecrate it to Her Divine service."

Consecrating Candles

Make the Pentacle over the candle, and say: "May our Lady's blessings rest upon this waxen creature."

Making an Altar, or Shrine

An altar or shrine can be of any size, and traditionally contains a statue, a candle, and incense. A cloth of some kind is also traditional, and while there are associated colors for the times of the year and festivals, either a blue or violet cloth can be used for most.

Within the ECE version 5, it is noted that a group ritual takes place to devote an altar or shrine. I have modified it for a solitary practice.

Speaking either out loud or internally, kneel before the altar and say;

"I offer devotion to my Lady."

Then pray the Silver Star

"Beloved Kyria, through Thy sacrifice purify my heart; through the gifts of Thy Spirit, put force into my hands and lips. I ask Thy Grace that I may consecrate this place unto Thy service."

Dip three fingers into the consecrated water and make the Pentacle over the altar/shrine, then say:

"In the name of the Mother and of the Daughter and of Absolute Deity, may this place be consecrated as a place set apart to the service and the glory of the one Dea; a holy place wherein Her peace shall reign."

Say the Rosary prayer.

Finally, say: "Mother of all that is, I thank Thee for the creation of this sanctuary of Thy peace; may I come often to it, to renew myself to Thee.

Tracing the Pentacle on yourself, say: "In the name of the Mother, and of the Daughter, and of Absolute Deity; thus may it remain."
